The 1st International Conference on Developmental and Family Centred Care for the Newborn Infant
Barcelona, 6 and 7 November 2008

Why an International Conference on Developmental and Family Centred Care for the Newborn Infant?

Our obligation is to care for the health of preterm infants in Spain and for many years we have attended to the challenges and needs of this type of patient. While professionally caring for patients and their families, we have discovered that a common interest exists in the health sector for disseminating awareness on developmental and family centred care for preterm newborn babies. In the medium and long-term development of very premature children, behavioural, learning and emotional disorders and social difficulties can be observed which could be prevented by incorporating this type of care.

As the scientific coordinators of the Hera Project, we have created this conference as a forum to identify priorities in developmental care and to disseminate the benefits of the same for both the child and its family. Contribution to knowledge in this field is vital if we wish our country to have increased awareness of the importance of developmental care.

We hope that the conference rouses the same professional interest in you as that with which it was created, and that it allows us to define future strategies and set work routines to improve practice in our country.
